The scope of competence of the department The department handles claims for redress, identifies the group of entitled persons, acquires relevant court files and files on served sentences; searches archival material from the period concerned, identifies the legal basis, the scope and amount of claims and issues decisions on redress; gives material compensation to persons rehabilitated by courts, grants compensations to injured parties for detriment suffered by the decision of state body or its erroneous official procedure; gives pecuniary compensation to mitigate wrong under special laws; represents the Slovak Republic and the Ministry in lawsuits on redress and enforces claimant’s claims according to final court rulings; handles citizens’ claims in the field of redress. 2.Legal provisions related with the agenda of the department - Act of the National Council of the Slovak Republic No. 305/1999 Coll. on the mitigation of certain injustices to persons deported to Nazi and concentration camps and prisoner-of-war camps as amended
